I hate, hate, hate to gauge swatch and I figured that I didn’t really need to do so if I was knitting a scarf. So I knitted along on my project for my funky scarf pal, but after felting, the scarf seems a bit short and wide (without wrapping, it hits about my waist), rather than the long and thin I predicted from the photo of the completed scarf on the pattern. Plus, I knit the brooch for it (the pink flower) and I kind of hate it. Plus, it just doesn’t seem that funky. I would appreciate any honest feedback. I still have time to knit something different.
Funky Scarf?

I don’t know what’s off…but somethin’ ain’t right 🙂
I like the scarf part a lot…and although the flower is cool, I think the tone of the colors (at least on my monitor) is not quite right. I really like the ridges on the ends of the scarf–quite sculptural. HTH.
Your scarf is plenty funky! And also plenty pretty- I love it! The flower and the ruffle are just perfect together.
I like it, I think the pink flower on the green scarf is what really sets off the funkiness, without the flower it would be too bland (although a fun scarf to make for yourself in the future). The whole thing looks like the right width and length when compared to the pattern, so don’t worry about that.
I understand feeling like it’s not quite funky enough, it’s the same problem I was having. Maybe you could take out the blue center of the flower and add a more shimmery yarn in gold or silver?
Well, I like it. I did check out the other work from the designer. Quite interesting.
I find all of the scarves are quite interesting in their own unique way. If I had to choose one, I might be hard put to pick just one.
I love the flower. Hard to guage the length without seeing it on a person but I think it’s gorgeous and funky enough. 🙂
I really like it. It’s different and I love the colours.
I like it too. It’s not totally funky, but it has some good funk to it. I agree with Left T’s suggestion to replace the blue with something metallic, that would be cool.
I really like it! It’s funky in a soothing way, if that makes sense. The flower is also pretty. 🙂
[…] Would you please take a minute and visit my completed scarf on my blog? I would like some honest opinions on what people think of it. Is it funky enough? My partner requested a funky pattern (not funky yarn), if that helps. I still have time to knit something else. Thanks in advance. […]
I haven’t seen a felted scarf before, that’s pretty funky! What I’ve seen of felted stuff is scratchy and that’s not really good for near faces. Of course, I’m a soft yarn kind of gal.
I think it’s fine. It does sound a bit short but rather than redoing it, consider adding some vine-like fringe at the bottom to punch it up a bit. Maybe even with a little of the pink and blue yarn in it to act as flowers or something. Either using twisted yarn or strands of beads (use fishing line if you do beads so that it’s strong enough to stand wear and tear).
How about more flowers at the bottoms or vines like someone suggested? It seems like it needs a bit more, but that’s just my taste. You did a excellent job, and I know how frustrating it is when the FO is different from your artistic vision. Hang in there.
I think it’s a great funky pattern. It’s very interesting. Colors can always look different over the Internet but the pink seems a little strong against that lime. I would go look at your partner’s blog and ask yourself if she seems like the type who would like these big bold colors and, if so, go for it. My 2 cents.
