What are your favorite colors? I love rich colors, like plum, olive green, ruby, midnight blue…. I also like bright colors like turquoise, pink, kiwi green, orange, lemon yellow.
Are you a new sock knitter? How long have you been knitting socks? I am a new sock knitter, as I am currently working on my second pair of socks.
Do you prefer solid or multicolored yarn? I prefer multicolored yarn, as I find it motivating to watch how the colors work themselves out.
What fibers do you prefer in sock yarn? I'm not picky, as long as the yarn isn't too scratchy.
Where do you usually knit socks? I knit wherever I can, although most of my kniting occurs while watching the dreaded glowing box or in the car on a roadtrip.
How do you usually carry/store small projects? If they are small enough, I stuff them in my maruca purse, which I LOVE. If I am traveling, I stuff them in this large tote bag, along with other essentials, like library books and my camera.
What are your favorite sock knitting patterns? Since I am a newbie to socks, I have been generally following the basic heel flap patterns in "Sensational Knitted Socks." I'd like to branch out, however.
What are your favorite sock knitting techniques? I am a sock on two circs. person. I can knit on dpns, but I much prefer the two circs approach as I am far less likely to drop stitches.
What new techniques would you like to try? I'd love to learn other approaches to heels other than the heel flap method, although this seems to be working well for me so far. Cool textures, cool color patterns….I'm open to whatever.
Do you prefer circulars or dpns for sock knitting? I am a two circs. person.
What are some of your favorite yarns? I generally like yarn with rich color as well as yarn that either is super soft (like the alpaca scarf that I am currently knitting for a friend) or has nice stitch definition. As a new sock knitter, I don't have super brand loyalty yet.
What yarn do you totally covet? Yarn that is super cuddly or beautifully colored, especially if it is multicolored and creates cool patterns. Self-striping yarn is one of the many reasons I wanted to learn to knit socks.
Any pattern you would love to make if money and time were no object? I would knit the color on color scarf from "Scarf Style". I would also love to make some sort of beautiful fair isle piece, as I haven't done very much multicolor knitting.
Favorite kind of needles (brand, materials, straights or circs, etc)? I've been knitting my socks on addis, but most other things I knit on some sort of bamboo. I like pointy needles.
If you were a specific kind of yarn, which brand and kind of yarn would you be? One of those Schaeffer yarns, as I aspire to be one of those fierce women with so much richness to them.
Do you have a favorite candy or mail-able snack? Black licorice. My husband finds it disgusting, but if someone were to mail it to me….
What’s your favorite animal? I have to say cats, but I also love fish and dragonflies.
Do you have pets? What are their species/names/ages? I have two cats, Muffin (age 6) and Quincy (age 3). We also have some fish. I long for a big cuddly dog, but not the house training, or the inability to take off for a weekend without arranging pet care.
If you were a color what color would you be? I'm not very good at these…ummm…blueberry?
Describe your favorite shirt (yours or someone else’s).. I have a navy blue McMenamin's t-shirt, with a personified moon on it. I love McMenamin's art and I always get compliments on the shirt.
What is your most inspiring image, flower, or object in nature? I love ginkgo trees. I love that such a beautiful leaf comes from such a stinky tree.
Tell me the best quote you’ve ever heard or read. I wish I could think of something profound, but the only one that comes to mind is from Kindergarten Cop. "I'm not a policeman, I'm a princess." You can only be who you already are, right?
Do you have a wishlist? Nope.
Anything else you’d like to share with the group today? I'm a leftie knitter (and I knit from left to right), which means that I always have to translate patterns into left-handed, backwards land.
